Apprehensions on new forms allayed

Sangareddy: The Income Tax Department is inching forward towards introducing paperless filing of returns for the benefit of taxpayers, according to Income Tax Commissioner of Hyderabad-2 A.K. Jain.

He was addressing taxpayers after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Education of taxpayers in filling tax returns’ here at the Chemists Bhavan on Wednesday.

The Commissioner pointed out that even though online facility was available, the taxpayer still had to file a hard copy for filing purpose. This practice would be gradually discontinued leading to paperless system.

Updating on the new trends in filing of returns, Mr. Jain said that the department had already lessened the number of attachments to each ITR form like the audit reports and in future, one need not attach any proof in paper and everything would be online.

Avoid trouble

The Commissioner said that only those persons of firms whose returns did not match with the actual earnings had to worry as the department had its own information system that kept a tab on the activities of all eligible taxpayers. Brushing aside apprehensions on the new tax forms, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax of Range-8 Maya Maheswari said that the new forms were scientifically designed and all one had to do was to fill it step by step. She said that the new forms not only enabled digital compilation of data but also created uniformity.

Sangareddy tops

The Joint Commissioner asked Income Tax officers under Range 8 to achieve the set target this financial year. She said that Sangareddy had been contributing to almost 50 per cent of tax budget of the range.

She attributed the recent decline in Sangareddy’s share to lack of awareness among people. Income Tax officer Kavitha Rani and in-charge I-T officer B. Venkateswara Rao also spoke at the workshop. A large number of individual taxpayers, merchant associations from Sadasivapet and Zaheerabad attended the programme.
