Metaphor in colour

Inspired by images: ‘Thirst’, a mixed media on canvas by Ankur Rana

THIS FOR ``TALK OF THE TOWN” WITH PICTURE.

A ten-day solo show titled ‘Images: Beyond Infinity’ by Delhi-based artist Ankur Rana is now on at Delhi’s Shridharani Art Gallery.

Ankur’s paintings are inspired by the decorative style that he developed while designing exquisite Kashmiri shawls, just after he completed his post- graduation in fine arts. Ankur’s style essentially is a combination of occidental colour scheme and traditional motifs. He prefers large spaces to accommodate the images and motifs the way he wants to arrange them.

“My experiments started to synthesise the Western and Oriental forms. Since then whatever I paint, whether it is reality or fantasy, has a convincing effect and appears to be true to my orientation of both occidental and romantic characters. I also try to extract motifs from nature and set them in a modern ambience,” says the artist.

The men and women in Ankur’s paintings are symbolic of the intricacies of human existence. The women he depicts are over-ambitious and innocent at the same time. The exhibition is on up to July 31.
