Congress fires salvo at BJP

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Jai Kishan Sharma, has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled MCD had failed to file within the prescribed time a reply to the Supreme Court in the matter of the Master Plan for Delhi-2021.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Mr. Sharma said the apex court, before giving approval to mixed land use and construction of a third floor in accordance with the Master Plan for Delhi-2021, had asked various departments including the MCD to file a reply by July 23 listing the arrangements being made to improve infrastructure. This was done keeping in mind additional pressure that the civic body would be subjected to due to provisions in the Master Plan.

Mr. Sharma alleged that the BJP’s failure to comply with the Court’s orders had jeopardised prompt implementation of the Master Plan which was constituted by the Union Government to save the citizens of Delhi from sealing and demolition.

He urged the BJP to hasten a reply to the Supreme Court to avoid inconvenience to lakhs of traders and professionals.

The Leader of the Opposition also said the prescribed parking charges were on the higher side and unaffordable and it was uncertain if these charges would be spent on construction of parking spaces. He blamed the MCD officials for putting in place a confusing method for calculation and payment of conversion charges.

Mr. Sharma further alleged that the Garbage Management Committee constituted by the Mayor had the maximum representatives from the posh localities of South Delhi whereas it was imperative that the committee contain at least one member from each MCD zone because the recommendations of this committee would be applicable for the entire Capital.
