HYDERABAD: The State Government has decided to release water for ayacut and drinking water purposes from the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) for a period of ten days from July 31 although the storage level in the reservoir at Pochampad is very low. The was stated by Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah in a press release after a meeting with SRSP officials on Friday. He said the storage in the dam was just 14.6 tmcft against a capacity of 90.3 tmcft. Yet, the Government felt the need for release of four or five tmcft water from July 31 to help farmers downstream.
