VISAKHAPATNAM: The banned CPI (Maoist) which is observing a martyrs week from Saturday erected a memorial at Kumkumpudi village in G. K. Veedhi mandal in Visakha agency area a couple of days ago. According to information received here, martyrs memorials were erected at seven or eight places in the agency area. Thus the naxalites seemed to be going ahead with their activities in spite of the stepped up combing by the police in view of the martyrs week. Observance of a protest or a martyrs week always increases tension in the agency area and the next week would not be different. This time the arrest of a top leader of the party, Sreeramulu Srinivas, an expert in preparing and setting off of landmines and member of the CPI (Maoist) central committee and Andhra Orissa Border Zone Special Committee, might prompt the naxalites to carry out a major incident.
