Left leaders’ appeal to make bandh successful

Chittoor: Leaders of the CPI(M) and CPI -- Kandarappu Murali and Hari Nadha Reddy, who are on in definite hunger strike, have appealed to all sections of people to observe bandh voluntarily on Friday and make it a big success, as which was aimed at the welfare of poor.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday they criticised the adamant attitude of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in resolving their demands. Dr Reddy would face the same fate as former Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu if he failed to solve the problems of the people.

They said that the picketing programme of the party workers in towns and mandal headquarters on Thursday in the district was successful.

As many as 600 party workers were arrested in the district during the picketing programme. The police behaved high-handedly and harassed the party workers. The ‘Bhooporatam’ would continue after the bandh till the Government conceded to solve the problems of the people.

Services exempted

Supply of milk, hospital servics, medical shops and buses to Tirumala would be exempted from the bandh. RTC, private buses and lorries managements were asked not to ply vehicles.

‘Shava Yatra’

Anantapur Staff Reporter writes: The activists of All India Youth Federation took out a ‘shava yatra’ with an effigy of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for the alleged neglect of the State Government in giving houses, house sites and land for the poor.

AIYF leaders N. Sreeramulu, P.L. Narasimhulu, K.Y. Prasad and others also criticised the measures of suppression being used by the State Government against people’s movements with brutal police force.
