Routine Fare: Chiranjeevi and Karishma Kotak in ‘Shankardada Zindabad’.
Film: Shankardada Zindabad Cast: Chiranjeevi, Srikant, Karishma Kotak Director: Prabhu Deva One of the most-awaited movies of the year ‘Shankardada Zindabad’, which is the second part of hit comedy about the lovable goon and his misadventures in a medical college, is out. It isn’t novel for Telugu cinema dream merchants to recycle ideas and package them in a new format, but the fact is this sequel is not as good as the first instalment. Also right from the word go, Lage Raho was a laugh-a-minute roller coaster and the audience was taken in by surprise when they found tears springing unexpectedly in their eyes or when the film makes them pause and think. While the characters in ‘Shankardada MBBS’ struck a chord, their work here is not very promising or heart warming…the contribution from the writers is far from satisfactory. Chiranjeevi is disarming and delirium is what the audience goes through when he gets into the complex footwork. Karishma Kotak seems to be the right match for Chiranjeevi in terms of physique, looks graceful and elegant but lacks the intensity required to handle and empathise with the people in the home for the aged. The other characters had the star cast lifted from the prequel - Srikant had his career going to great heights after the first part, but to be honest here, his role is subservient and also fails to strike a chord with the masses. Some dialogues sparkle here and there but nothing is over the top. It is never easy to live up to the expectations of the people after the first part. Terms like ‘Gandhigiri’ have found their way through some catchy sequences. Preaching
This movie aims to convey to the society the harsh realities in a subtle way. A preachy philosopher is never accepted in the society, but a clown with a smile is sure to attract the masses. Prabhu Deva, the director does not get bogged down with preachy dialogues aimed at the critics, but the end product has resulted in pleasing the usual cinegoers and that’s what matters. Y.
