Notices served to resume 3.5 lakh acres assigned lands

‘Government has identified 5.37 lakh acres under illegal occupation’

‘Many big names in the list of persons who were served notices’

HYDERABAD: The State Government has served notices to resume 3.50 lakh acres of assigned lands under illegal occupation in the State.

“The Government has identified 5.37 lakh acres under illegal occupation and notices have already been sent to resume 3.50 lakh acres,” Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said, while replying to a short debate on Government lands and recommendations of Koneru Ranga Rao committee in the Legislative Council on Friday.

“There are many big names in the list of persons who were served notices,” the Minister added.

“We will resume these assigned lands and distribute among the poor,” Mr. Prasada Rao said.

Stating that the Government was committed to implementing the Koneru Ranga Rao committee report, the Minister wondered why the Left parties were still insisting on continuing their agitation.

He said there was ambiguity in the Left parties’ demand for autonomous land commission.

Left criticised

“Why are the Left parties particular that an independent land commission be constituted. Will such a commission be more effective than a special officer handling the land related issues under the supervision of the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration?” he questioned.

Stating that no Government had ever tried to tackle the land issue, Mr. Prasada Rao said it was only after the Congress Government came to power that 4.37 lakh acres were distributed among the poor in the last three years.

Urging the opposition parties to point out if there were any lapses, the Minister said the Government was willing to initiate action.

The Minister said the Government’s commitment was evident in the manner in which it had agreed to make public the list of beneficiaries of the Indiramma housing programme.

Survey sought

Dadi Veerabhadra Rao (TDP), K. Dileep Kumar (TRS), Puvvada Nageswara Rao (CPI) and M.V.S. Sharma (PDF) wanted a comprehensive survey to identify landless poor.

P. Sudhakar Reddy, Paladugu Venkata Rao (both Congress party) accused the Left parties of launching the agitation only to gain political mileage.
