SALEM: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption personnel have detained the medical superintendent of Mettur Government Headquarters Hospital on the charge of demanding money to operate upon a patient. DV and AC sources told The Hindu that Mayayi (55) of Mettur was hospitalised following complications in her uterus. Medical superintendent K. Kalamani allegedly demanded Rs.3,500 for a surgery to remove the uterus. Based on a complaint preferred by Mayayi’s son Jayapal, a team of officials detained the doctor while receiving the sum. — Special Correspondent
