CHENNAI: Chennai Port Trust chairman K. Suresh on Saturday was given additional charge on Saturday as Tuticorin Port Trust (TPT) chairman and chairman and managing director of Sethusamudram Corporation Limited (SCL). This followed an order from the Union Ministry of Shipping granting two months’ leave to N.K. Raghupathy, TPT chairman and SCL chairman and managing director. Incidentally, he had addressed a press meet earlier in the day in the city in his capacity as the SCL head. “I came back to office to see the [leave] order on my table,” he told The-Hindu, even while refusing to elaborate on the reasons. “I had sought a month’s leave … they have given me two months,” he said. Sources in the shipping industry said his being granted leave was not connected to the issues concerning the Sethusamudram project.
