Inspiring message
The farewell message by former President Abdul Kalam, which was a thanksgiving address to the people of India, is unique and unprecedented in the history of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The former President was more concerned about the nation, the bridge between urban and rural sections, and the rich culture of the country.
He stressed the need of value system in education. He wished responsible, transparent and corruption-free governance as these qualities are rarely seen in India today as almost all the political parties, both national and regional have become selfish.
On the whole, the address to the nation by the former President concentrated exclusively on the development of the country as he reiterated his favourite theme that India can become a developed nation even before 2020 and hoped for eradication of poverty.
Abdul Kalam is a scientist and spiritualist imbibing different cultures and religions, and more than these he is a humanist, for transforming the scientific developments for the welfare of the people without confining these to the four walls of the scientific laboratories.

The Endowments Department should enquire into the allegations that the devotees who throng Basar temple of the Goddess of learning, Saraswati, are being exploited badly. Commodities essentials for worship like the slates used for starting of writing of alphabets for children- ‘Vidyabhyasa’, and the garlands for goddess are sold at unbelievably exorbitant prices out of the common man’s reach.
