G.K. Motors HC wins
Rajapalayam: G.K. Motors Hockey Club, Madurai lifted the Thalaimalai Venniammal memorial Trophy defeating City Police, Chennai 5-3 in the final of the third annual State-level hockey tournament organised by Best Friends Hockey Club at Government HSS ground, Rajapalayam on Sunday.
Ramdoss, who scored three goals, gave the lead for the G.K. Motors in the fourth minute. But City Police scored the equaliser in the 8th minute through Dominic. G.K. Motors scored three more through A.G. Kannan (20th), Ramdoss (24th) and Ramesh (32nd) for a 4-1 lead at half time.
In the second half Police fought back and scored two goals through Joseph (36th) and Muthupandi (42nd) to reduce the lead to 4-3. Ramdoss the scored his third goal in the 48th minute for a 5-3 victory for G.K. Motors.
Earlier in the semifinals G.K. Motors Club beat host Best Friends Hockey Club 2-0. A.G. Kannan and Ramdoss scored. City Police, Chennai beat Blue Boys Hockey Club ‘B’ 3-0. Dominic (2) and Muthupandi scored.

Southern Railway and SRM Rising Star Basketball Club, Chennai will clash in the final of the Tamil Nadu State women’s basketball championship for Dr. Dharmamambal Namashivayam Trophy, organised by Sivagangai District Basketball Association at Karaikudi.

Two share lead
S. Athirai of Dindigul and Pon N. Krithika of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering share the lead with 6 points each at the end of the seventh round in girls section in the Shri T.P. Textiles 21st State junior chess championship at Rajapalayam.
Irrespective of the draw against P. Kathikeyan of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, R.A. Pradeep Kumar of Chennai remains to be the sole leader with six points, in the boys’ section. Karthikeyan and his team mate P. Saravana Krishnan, reigning u-17 National champion, have 5.5 points each.
