Bhakti channel: BJP for no compromise by TTD on appointments

Special Correspondent

Seeks adequate transparency in selection of incumbents to the channel

TIRUPATI: State and district party leaders belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on Wednesday took a delegation to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer K.V. Ramanachari to prevail upon him not to compromise on the quality and competence aspects while recruiting personnel to man its proposed ’Sri Venkateswara Bhakthi Channel’.

The delegation’s visit comes in the wake of widespread reports in the print and the electronic media about the ‘questionable manner’ in which the TTD management was reportedly trying to rope in hands, mostly retired Doordarshan personnel, to run the channel. The Sangh Parivar team in a representation presented to the Executive Officer appealed to him to ensure adequate transparency in the selection of incumbents to the channel and try to rope in only the ‘genuinely talented’ persons by giving a wide publicity through the reputed media to the recruitment process.

The delegation also questioned the need and the wisdom behind the TTD trying to lay a railway line to Tirumala at an enormous expenditure when the basic amenities needed for the ordinary pilgrims at Tirumala left much to be desired.

The delegation said that the pilgrims by and large resented the proposal on the ground that it would be a huge drain on the TTD coffers and appealed that the TTD dropped the move. The Sangh Parivar in its statement in this connection has quoted the Executive Officer as denying any recruitment having been done already. The EO was quoted as promising the delegation that the recruitment would be transparent.
