Corporal punishment

The New Nallakunta incident in which an LKG student sustained injury on his tongue again brings into sharp focus corporal punishment in schools. While officials say they have advised teachers not to ‘punish’ children, thrashing students appears to be rampant not only in schools, but also in junior colleges.

The corporate colleges, which claim to be sending maximum students to IITs and NITs, are known to beat up students in the name of enforcing discipline. While most of the students who get punished keep quiet, some do retaliate and fight back, as it happened in case of a student in a college recently. Do the authorities also keep a check on colleges?
