BHEL wins major order from APCPL

Aravali Power to feed northern grid

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electicals Limited (BHEL) has won a Rs. 2,900-crore order from Aravali Power Company Private Limited (APCPL) for supply and installation of main plant package at the upcoming Jahjjar super thermal power project in Haryana. This plant is coming up on a fast track basis to feed the northern grid, especially Delhi, and is likely to be completed just in time for the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Beating stiff international competitive bidding (ICB), BHEL won the order, involving three units of 500 MW each. APCPL is a joint venture company of NTPC, IPGPL and HPGCL, according to an official release here.

Significantly, this is the highest value boiler and turbine generator (BTG) package contract for a single project ever received by BHEL.

Slated for synchronisation during the XI Plan, these units will add 36 million units every day to the grid on commissioning, which will be shared by the power deficit States of Delhi and Haryana.
