New exit taxiway at international airport

NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport (P) Limited has commissioned a new high speed turn-off exit taxiway at Indira Gandhi International Airport here to ease traffic on the main runway.

The 571-metre taxiway starts at 2,350 m from the beginning of the runway and can be used by all domestic airlines to reach their parking stand quickly. The taxiway (F) will reduce occupancy time for aircraft on the main runway from the Dwarka side. As a result, planes can vacate the runway sooner and this will decrease the waiting time for the following aircraft leading to faster landings, said a DIAL release.

In addition, taxiway (B) -- commissioned recently -- is located at a distance of 2,875 m and is used by aircraft heading towards Terminal 1. Taxiway (U) located at a distance of 2,350 m can accommodate aircraft up to Code E (Boeing 747 or smaller).

Taxiway (V) is located at a distance of 2, 875 m and can accommodate aircraft up to Code F (Airbus A-380 or smaller). Both these taxiways have been provided with “fillets” to facilitate the turning of the aircraft towards the international terminal, Terminal 2.
