Hard fought win for Akash Goud

Udhagamandalam: Akash Goud of Lawrence bounced back from a one-set deficit to oust R. Lokesh of BMS 15-21, 21-14, 21-18 in the under-19 boys’ singles opening round of the Nilgiris district badminton championship at the Anna Stadium courts here on Friday.
On the distaff side, K. Karunya (HIL) struggled a bit before overcoming M. Geethanjali of Lawrence 20-22, 21-8, 21-13.
Rajesh Nahar, Vice President, Tamil Nadu Badminton Association, and Karthikeyan, M.D., Incoserve, inaugurated the tournament.
