Hakeem bags a double
HYDERABAD: M.A. Hakeem of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) bagged a double in the GHMC annual open ranking carrom tournament on Monday.
He won the men’s singles title beating teammate Syed Nayyar 25-10, 22-25, 25-18 and then, partnering Sharukh Khan, won the men’s doubles beating Dinesh Babu and Ravinder Goud of AGAP 23-25, 25-11, 25-18.

Five in lead
Five players, K. Karun, R. Siva Prasad, K.Vijay Kanth, K. Sriram and K. Anmol with five points each, were leading in the senior boys’ category after two rounds in the K-Yan Independence Cup chess tournament on Monday.

Chess tournament
The Bank of Rajasthan will conduct a chess tournament for under-11 boys and girls of Visakhapatnam District at the East Coast Chess Academy from August 16. Entries close on August 15. Interested players may contact the bank’s branch at Dwaraka Nagar or call ph: 99632 99333.
Brace by Albert
Two goals by Russell Albert and one by Shiva Prasad enabled Wesley Boys High School defeat Gowtham School 3-0 in the Sachdev Sports inter school football tournament at Trimulgherry on Monday.
In another match, Government School Trimulgherry beat Ivy Academy 2-1. The scorers for Govt School were Paul and Rahul while Haemin scored for Ivy Academy.
In yet another battle, Pallavi School got the better of St.Theresa’s HS 2-0, both goals coming from Mayur.
Cross country race
The PG College, Secunderabad, under the auspices of the OU inter-college tournaments committee, will conduct the inter-collegiate cross country races at the Osmania University ground on August 19 at 6.30 a.m. The meet is open to degree and post graduate students of the Osmania University.
