Grand double for Nikhat
VIJAYAWADA: Hyderabad’s Nikhat Banu won a grand double, clinching the women’s and junior girls’ titles, while South Central Railway’s Somanth Ghosh emerged as the men’s champion in the AP State Satyam memorial ranking table tennis tournament, which concluded at Vijayawada Club, here on Sunday.
Nikhat of Gujarat Seva Mandal bounced back brilliantly to tame P. Srilakshmi (Postal) 4-2 (6-11, 11-13, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8) in the women’s final. She had no problems in beating Anantapur’s K. Harshita 4-0 (11-9, 11-3, 11-9, 11-5) to claim the junior final.
One-sided contest
In a one-sided encounter, Somanth outplayed Krishna Kiriti (Postal) 4-0 (11-6, 16-14, 11-3, 11-5) in the men’s final.
Dr. Murali Krishna, Managing Director, Care Hospitals, gave away the prizes.
