Seeded players have it easy

ALL FOCUS: Sriram Balaji prevailed over Sushanth Nambiar in the adidas-MCC National junior tennis.
Chennai: The first round of the adidas-MCC junior National tennis championship was spared of too many seeded casualties in the boys’ under-18 singles event. With the exception of sixth seed Priyank Gangadaran who was ousted by qualifier V. Vignesh 6-7(2), 6-7(1), the remaining seeds advanced on Monday.
Fourth seed Sriram Balaji (TN) prevailed on a hot day over Sushanth Nambiar of AP 6-1, 7-6(6) in the first round.
Sushanth sprayed the ball around in the first set, but was a lot more restrained in his shot-making for most parts of the second. The AP lad raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set tie-break with some of the most powerful hitting seen in the match. Sriram worked on his angles thereafter, which forced Sushanth into making mistakes and allowing his opponent to edge past him in the tie-break.
