Balinder hogs limelight

KOLLAM: Balinder Singh of Railways hogged the limelight by setting three National records in the 82.5kg weight category on the third day of the Senior National powerlifing championship here on Monday

The 20 year old, competing in the 82.5kg this year, was simply too good for the rest of the field.

Seena impresses

Kerala’s S. Seena set new marks in dead lift and total while winning the 56kg weight category. Seena was pushed hard by J. Ramalaxmi of Andhra Pradesh, who led the field after squat and bench press.

The results: Men: 75kg: 1. T. Muralidharan (Rly) 775kg (295kg squat, 170kg bench press, 310kg dead lift), 2. K. Masilamani (Pon) 735 (292.5, 165, 277.5), 3. Mahip Kumar (Del) 727.5 (275, 182.5 (New record, Old: 178kg, Balinder Singh 2006), 270); 82.5kg: 1. Balinder Singh (Rly) 856 (New, Old: 810 kg, Gurdeep Singh, 2006) (325kg, 205kg (New, Old: 197.5kg, Gurdeep Singh, 2006), 326 (New, Old: 325kg, V. Raja, 2005), 2. Sandeep Awari (Mah) 742.5kg (285, 170, 287.5), 3. Ajeet Singh (Har) 710 (285, 165, 260).

Women: 52kg: 1. S. Seena (Ker) 417.5kg (New, Old: 412.5kg, K. Siji, 1998) (162.5kg, 77.5kg, 177.5kg (New, Old: 175.5kg, self, 2005), 2. J. Ramalaxmi (AP) 405kg (165kg, 80kg, 160kg), 3.
