MCA student commits suicide
Vani, 23, a second year student of MCA, committed suicide by consuming some chemical on Wednesday, allegedly due to harassment by her in-laws, the Alwal police said. Hailing from Kazipet in Warangal district, Vani got married to Uma Mahesh of Venkatapuram in Alwal, a military office clerk, some nine months ago. Vani’s parents alleged that her in-laws began harassing her for additional dowry soon after the marriage and pestered to stop the Master of CA programme she was pursuing. On Wednesday, they received information that Vani was lying in an unconscious state in her college. They rushed to the college and shifted her to a private hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. Alwal police station Inspector Krishna Reddy said the victim reportedly consumed some chemical. A case under section 304-B (dowry harassment) of Indian Penal Code was registered. A speeding Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus knocked down a motorcyclist, N. Ashok, 45, near Punjagutta junction on Wednesday. An assistant engineer of A.P. Transco, the victim was working at Sangareddy in Medak district. He was going from Ameerpet to Khairatabad on his bike when the bus hit him before Shanbagh hotel around 10.30 a.m. The bus driver sped away even after running over the victim who fell on the road. The police are yet to trace the bus driver. Meanwhile, the Punjagutta police have registered a case and intensified efforts to trace the driver.
