Vaniyambadi: Vaniambadi is the first taluk in Vellore district to implement “Swarna Jayanti” scheme introduced by the Central Government under which four-wheeler licences are given to X Standard passed boys and girls living below the poverty line after formal training in a driving school for three months. Vaniyambadi Municipality had identified 18 boys and girls as beneficiaries of the scheme. They were selected within the town limit. The Municipality Chairman V. Sivaji Ganesan handed over the driving licences to the trained youths at a function organised on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day celebrations on Wednesday in the presence of Municipal Commissioner P. Kalyanasundaram. Councillor Kalaiselvan and driving school trainer Venkatesan were present.
