College teachers stage demonstration

CHENNAI: Members of the Joint Action Council of College Teachers staged demonstrations in various parts of the State on Thursday to press their demands that included filling of vacancies in government colleges.

The forum comprises the Association of University Teachers, the Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers’ Association and the Madurai Kamaraj University Teachers Association.

Raising the retirement age limit for college teachers, implementation of a career advancement scheme and adoption of the UGC norms in the selection of teachers and appointment of principals were the other demands.

They urged the Government to hold Ministerial-level talks to resolve the issue.
