Kakinada: The spill over houses from 2004 onwards are eligible for getting an aid of Rs. 3,200 for each house under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) so as to ensure their early completion, according to East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam. He said it was announced by Chief Minister Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy during the video conference held with all the District Collectors on Thursday. He said, as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, necessary building material would be supplied to the beneficiaries where ever the houses construction had stopped at basement level and all the women who were the members of the self help groups, would be provided with bridge loans to the sum of Rs. 10,000 for completion of the houses sanctioned to them. On clarification of sanctioning funds for the spill over houses under NREGS, the Collector said that the Chief Minister categorically stated that apart from the houses sanctioned under the Indiramma first phase, those sanctioned after 2004 were eligible for the aid. Other important instructions given by Mr. Reddy, included acquisition of lands required for the irrigation projects, to be completed before 2009, and expediting payment of compensation and providing relief and rehabilitation measures to the displaced ryots due to the various projects. The Chief Minister also asked the Collectors to intensify garbage clearance in the municipalities for improving sanitation. Members of the women self help groups in urban areas would be extended financial assistance.
