‘Old system of reconciliation quick in delivering justice’

Legal Services Authority holding awareness camps


Sangareddy: The mega Lok Adalat organised by the Medak District Legal Services Authority here on Saturday solved around 200 cases benefiting 511 litigants. In all, Rs. 18 crore has been ordered as compensation and 12,500 sq.ft. of land has been given to oustees of the Outer Ring Road project. Cases related to road accidents were also taken up.

Earlier, inaugurating the camp at the district court premises, district judge K.M. Nagbhushanam said that more than 3,554 criminal cases were pending in different stages in the district and out-of-court settlement and Lok Adalat help reduced the pendency. He pointed out that the old system of reconciliation at the village elders level has been quicker than the present system of dispensation of justice. He said that the Legal Services Authority has been conducting legal awareness camps among rural folk. Superintendent of Police R.B. Nayak said that organisation of Lok Adalats in rural areas would reduce number of petty cases.

District First Additional Judge Jayasurya was also present.
