Staff Reporter

District pushed to 22 position in SSC results

Sangareddy: Medak district which was pushed to the 22 position in the Statewide ranks of SSC examination, decided to encourage Urdu medium to improve its rank to 18 this academic year.

The district, which has achieved 79-pass percentage in the English medium schools, slumped to 46 in Urdu schools and achieved a slightly better pass percentage of 54 in Telugu medium taking the aggregate to 57 percent.

Potential to improve

Speaking to the The Hindu, the district educational officer P.Laxma Reddy pointed out that the students of Urdu medium have the potential to improve the over all rank.

Five of the 30 schools in the district that offer SSC in Urdu medium have been recognized by the board for

best performance in the March 2007 examination. However the Urdu schools in Narayankhed and Narsapur registered very poor performance.

Study material

However the district which has been supplying study material prepared by experts to other schools could not do so for Urdu medium.

The DEO pointed out that efforts have been made to solve the problem by supplying study material prepared by Urdu Daily Siasat to the Urdu medium schools.

To further improve its position in the State level ranking, the Medak district has embarked on recruiting more Vidya volunteers to teach the language.

Countering allegations of non-Urdu teachers teaching to SSC Urdu medium students, the DEO said that the regulations allow those who had taken Urdu as one of the subjects in their baccalaureate degree.
