ISI effigy, Pakistan flag burnt

RISING sentiments: Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha protesting in Tirupati against twin blasts in Hyderabad on Sunday.

TIRUPATI: The twin blasts that rocked the twin cities yesterday claiming in all about 41 lives besides leaving several severely injured had its echo in the temple city of Tirupati on Sunday. State and district functionaries of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth arm of the BJP, held rasta rokos at two different places and also burnt the ISI effigy as well as the Pakistan national flag to register their protest against the increasing Pak-sponsored trans-border terrorism in India.

The State BJYM president, G. Bhanu Prakash Reddy addressing the demonstrators attributed the spurt in the Islamic terrorist activities in the country to the repeal of the POTA and the soft attitude being displayed by the UPA Government towards the terrorist outfits in order to promote its vote bank policies.

The speakers at the meeting criticised the State Government for its laxity in acting on the repeated alerts sounded by the intelligence wing and the media about the lurking dangers of terrorist attacks especially in Hyderabad. .

The Chittoor district unit of the BJYM led by its general secretary Ratakonda Viswanath held a rasta roko at the railway station junction and charged that after the advent of the Congress Government at the Centre and the State, terrorist activities in the country registered an upswing. B. Chandra Reddy, M.R. Raja, M.V.S.Mani, Dhananjayalu Naidu and Chandrababu were among the leaders who participated.

C.N. Saravana, district convenor of the Bharatiya Jana Shakthi Party said that two deadly blasts reflected the deteriorating situation.

The parties demanded an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakh each to the families of all the deceased and Rs. one lakh each to all the injured.
