Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Unwarranted

The comments of Ronen Sen, Indian Ambassador to the U.S., on the behaviour of those who oppose the deal, were uncalled for.

An ambassador represents his country in a foreign land and his comments reflect the view of his country.

An international deal cannot be guaranteed to be in the best interest of the nation unless the pros and cons are weighed.

By criticising the MPs or the media, Mr. Sen actually criticised democracy and freedom of expression in our country.

Sunita Rupani,

Hyderabad

I am inclined to believe that Mr. Sen’s remarks were directed against the media.

But such comments by a seasoned diplomat cannot and should not be condoned under any circumstances.

At the same time, I request our honourable Members of Parliament to look at themselves before raising a hue and cry.

Parliament has become a virtual battlefield where disruption and slogan-shouting are the order of the day.

J. Dasgupta,

Coimbatore
