Temporary vehicle registrations at e-Seva centres

S. Sandeep Kumar

HYDERABAD: Temporary registration of new vehicles is now possible through eSeva centres in the State.

The facility that got underway from Monday was put in place primarily to check abnormal registration fees being currently charged by automobile showrooms.

Utilising the advantage of the monopoly given to them for temporary registration (T/R), automobile dealers were charging exorbitant permanent registration fee on the vehicle owners at times double the actual fee. While the Regional Transport Authority prescribed registration fees for a two-wheeler is Rs. 60, automobile dealers were charging over Rs. 400, similarly when it was Rs. 400 for a four wheeler, they coolly collected around Rs. 2, 000, admitted senior officials.

In such a scenario, Government made amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules and issued an order (GO Ms. No. 239) authorising e-Seva centres to process temporary registrations
