Malls, cinemas told to step up security checks

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Shopping malls, cinema theatres and IT/software companies have been told to step up security checks and install surveillance cameras as a precautionary measure.

Following the twin blasts in Hyderabad on Saturday, which claimed over 40 lives, the police intensified patrolling during the last two nights at check-posts and other key points. The police held meetings with proprietors and representatives of shopping malls, cinemas and software companies in the city on Monday.

Security personnel

Some of the Deputy Commissioners of Police said the shopping mall operators in multi-storeyed buildings had been told to appoint security personnel for each floor. Separate registers with record of entry of visitors would help identify people visiting various offices. Where surveillance cameras were essential, they had been told to install them in public interest. Similarly, commercial complex operators have been told to screen packed consignments arriving from other States.
