Toronto: A low-key ceremony marked the marriage of an Indo-Canadian couple in British Columbia province as the family mourned the deaths of six wedding guests in a road accident. Six persons were killed and 17 others injured when a pickup truck ploughed through a crowd of about 30 revellers walking down a road in a rural area of Abbotsford after a pre-wedding celebration on Friday. Nine remain in hospital. The wedding ceremony, held at a temple in Mission, British Columbia, that would have usually drawn hundreds of people, was restricted to small groups. “It’s really a sad day. But it was going to be an extremely happy one ,” said Terry Gidda, the temple’s president. “But the family has actually made a very good decision to go ahead with the wedding.” While the marriage ceremony took place on Sunday, the wedding reception for bride Simne Mahil and groom Robbie Grewal has been cancelled, as has a party at Mr. Grewal’s house. — PTI
