Check corruption

The Traffic Police Inspectors / Constables make people adhere to traffic rules strictly when they want money at the end of the month or beginning. If they impose the rules strictly, things will change, but they simply blame other departments.

Similarly functioning of Guntur Municipal Corporation in this aspect was no different. They are not taking care of road conditions and creating the parking places. While providing permission to apartment complexes and commercial establishments they do not insist on providing parking places. Hotels in the city are the worst violators.

Auto rickshaws and private buses simply stop wherever they desire while plying on the main road. They do not bother about the traffic on the road or traffic signals. Drivers are not experienced. The RTA officers simply do not bother to test driving skills while issuing licence.

So I think if corruption is rooted out in these departments things will improve. It is possible to cleanse the system not by one person but cooperation among various departments is needed.

Overcrowded autos

First I thank The Hindu for the initiative taken to educate people regarding Increasing Traffic Menace in Guntur city. The traffic in Guntur can be regulated and some of the suggestions I wish to make are:

1. There should be a curb on movement of Auto rickshaws.

The Auto drivers ply vehicles recklessly and always overcrowd them with a minimum of 5 to 6 members in one auto.

Why is the police not taking action against them.

They penalise two-wheeler riders going without helmet or who triple ride, but do not take action against autos that overload.

2. Police must stop ‘service autos’ and make sure that the Autos do not stop at key junctions blocking traffic flow.
