TIRUCHI: Scores of unauthorised advertisement hoardings were pulled down in the city on Tuesday. While some were removed by Corporation workers, owners scampered to remove several other structures voluntarily. The owners were taken off guard by the Corporation move, as Collector Ashish Vachhani on Monday had issued an ultimatum asking them to dismantle the structures within a week. The scurry resulted in a couple of minor accidents, with at least three private workers sustaining injuries after falling down while removing the structures. Some hoardings were taken off using gas cutters. The Corporation Commisioner, B. Balachandran, supervised the operation. At the end of the day, 188 hoardings were pulled down by Corporation workers. Mr. Vachhani had instructed the officials of the local bodies and Revenue department to dismantle all unauthorised hoardings in the city and other parts of the district, based on Government and court directives. Owners of private property, who had rented their space for putting up hoardings, have been asked to ensure that the structures were removed within seven days, failing which the local bodies would do so and collect the expenditure incurred from the owners.
