L.V. Raghava Rao, president of Indian Medical Association, AP.: The removal of garbage is not done in an organised manner. The Janachaitanya scheme under which garbage is collected door-to-door is working well in good colonies like Law son’s Bay, Siripuram or MVP, to name a few. But in the slums where the lower income and poor live, garbage is thrown everywhere and not cleared. This leads to their contacting vector-borne diseases, mainly fevers like dengue or malaria. Besides, drains are not cleared properly. It results in spread of water-borne diseases like diarrhoea with flies carrying infection.
