Prestigious award for Kasturirangan

BANGALORE: Eminent scientist K. Kasturirangan, Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, and the former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, has been awarded the prestigious Theodore von Karman Award of the International Academy of Astronautics, Paris, for 2007.

The award will be presented to Dr. Kasturirangan at the Academy Day Dinner on September 23 in Hyderabad during the 58th International Astronautical Congress organised jointly by International Astronautical Federation, the International Academy of Astronautics and International Institute of Space Law.

The award is the highest distinction of the International Academy of Astronautics given annually to recognise outstanding lifetime achievements in any branch of science.

It was instituted in 1987 in memory of Theodore von Karman, the legendary aerospace scientist and founder and first president of the IAA. The former ISRO chairman, U.R. Rao, is also a recipient of the award.
