BJP resents circular

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has objected to a government directive to all State governments to ensure posting of some Muslim policemen in areas with large minority population. It has also criticised a similar directive from the Department of Personnel and Training that there should be more Muslim teachers and health personnel in such areas.
“Is it just and fair … to presume that even after 60 years of Independence, a non-Muslim police officer cannot protect Muslims? What message are we giving,” asked BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad in a statement here.
He said this would open the floodgate of demands, including investigation into terrorist attacks by Muslim officers, if the accused were Muslims, and trial by Muslim judges.
