Minister assures water to Yadiki ayacut

Works on the Pendekal and Chagallu reservoirs under the project are in full swing

ANANTAPUR: Minister for Panchayati Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy has assured the people of his constituency that water to the ayacut under Yadiki Branch Canala or PABR stage-II shall be given from 2009 kharif. Works on the Pendekal and Chagallu reservoirs as part of the project were making a brisk progress.

Speaking after inaugurating new buildings constructed for MPDO’s office and Panchayati Raj guesthouse at Pedda Pappuru in the district on Friday he said land acquisition for the two reservoirs was in the final stages. Of the 840 acres required for the purpose 660 acres was already acquired, he stated.

Farmers urged the Minister to release water to Muchukota reservoir this year for which the Minister readily agreed. On the development and welfares scheme being implemented by the State Government he said about 4,000 houses were sanctioned under Indiramma scheme to Pedda Pappuru mandal during the last two years against just 600 given during the previous nine-year TDP rule.

Later, District Collector N. Sridhar distributed compensation to the farmers whose lands would be submerged in the two reservoirs under construction. About Rs. 3.31 crores was distributed to 52 farmers of Chagallu, 95 of Chinna Yekkaluru, 20 of Pedda Pappuru and 81 of Pendekal villages. The Minister complimented M. Ramanjula Reddy of the village for donating 1.7 acres land for construction of MPDO, PR guesthouse.
