CPI (ML) flays US’ attitude on utilisation of fuel

VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI(ML) State committee on Friday demanded that the nuclear deal with America be scrapped as it would pose a serious threat to sovereignty of the nation in future.

At a press conference here the party State leader Gurram Vijay Kumar said that the deal would jeopardise the nation’s autonomy on atomic energy and flayed the USA for its big brother attitude on utilisation of nuclear fuel. He called upon intellectuals and scientists to oppose the deal.

C. Peddanna, State leader of Andhra Pradesh Federation of Trade Unions, who was present, while welcoming them, said that the government’s policies had seriously affected workers in private sector as well as in government departments. He said about 600 HR (hourly rate) workers working on Telugu Ganga project for several years were not so far regularised though the Industrial Disputes Act clearly mentioned that workers who had put up more than 240 days of service must be regularised.

About 50,000 employees in various government departments too were not regularised, he added.

Counselling

Counselling for appointment of 101 regular ANM posts began amid protests on Friday. ANMs, who had been working on contract basis for sometime, staged a protest demanding weightage instead of giving the same to anganwadis and also stop postings through third party recruitment in urban areas. A court order issued following a writ plea by some of the ANMs directed the administration to file a counter petition within four weeks.
