NEW DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has issued a show cause notice to ‘Live India’ television channel for airing a fake sting operation that showed a Delhi school teacher’s involvement in prostitution. The channel has been asked to respond by this week end as to why action should not be taken against it for broadcasting a story that had no basis. It has also been asked as to why its broadcast permission should not be suspended/ revoked. The notice was issued on Tuesday evening, officials said. The telecast led to rioting near the school and the arrest and dismissal of the teacher. She has since been granted bail. The Ministry is also contemplating action against the channel for changing its name without permission. Formerly called ‘Janmat,’ it took the name ‘Live India’ and got a new logo even as its application was being considered by the Ministry. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
