BANGALORE: The historic Madras-Colombo Rugby Series, which had been shelved for well over a decade, has been revived by the South India Rugby Football Association (SIRFA), with its affiliate the Karnataka Rugby Football Union (KRFU). The tournament sponsored by Assetz and e4e, will be played between Bangalore, Chennai and Sri Lanka at the Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday and at the Corps of Military Police (CMP) Rugby Grounds on Sunday. ADE gets its first win in four matchesADE registered its first victory in four matches while defeating DYSS 2-0 in a State super-division league match at the Football Stadium here on Thursday. Ronald (48th min.) and Dakshinamurthy (74th min.) scored for the victors. Earlier in an ‘A’ division league match, BUFC defeated RBI 3-0. Ramesh (12th min.), Madhukar (55th min.) and Kamal (64th min.) scored for the victors. North slams 122Skipper Marcus North’s 122 helped Western Australia score 420 for six in reply to Karnataka XI’s first innings score of 234 in the two-day match that concluded in a draw at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Thursday. North’s century (122, 182b, 18x4) along with Shaun Marsh’s 56, guided the visitor past the 400-mark and also helped in gaining a 186-run lead over the host. For Karnataka XI, Arjun Shetty and Sunil Raju grabbed two wickets each. Meanwhile, in an academic second innings, Karnataka XI struggled at 80 for four in 24 overs before the stumps were drawn. The two teams will now clash in a limited overs match at the Infosys Campus Ground in Mysore on September 15 and on the next day, they will play a Twenty20 match. The scores: Karnataka XI 234 in 55.1 overs and 80 for four in 24 overs drew with Western Australia 420 for six in 90 overs (Marcus North 122, Shaun Marsh 56). Fortis, HAL match drawnFortis and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited played out a 1-1 draw in the Synergy Sports Super Division league hockey tournament here on Thursday. Viren Lakra scored for Fortis and Elavarasan (61st) produced the equaliser. Both teams however qualified for the Tier I of the Super Division which commences on Friday. Good day for JIRSThe host, Jain International Residential School, had a good day in the JASE Cup inter-school sports festival being held at JIRS campus here. JIRS won the table tennis title in the senior boys’ category beating International School of Bangalore 3-1. It also won the tennis team title in the senior section and badminton title in the junior boys’ category. TISB won the football event for junior girls beating Bangalore International School 2-0 while Mallaya Aditi International School defeated JIRS 24-8 in the basketball event for senior girls. JIRS set up a title clash with Indus School in the football tournament for senior boys.
