Call for united struggle to check pollution

Green campaign: Students of Gayatri Vidya Parishad at a rally at Maddilapalem junction in Visakhapatnam to create awareness on ozone protection on Monday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: An impressive rally was taken out by students of Gayatri Vidya Parishad Degree College (autonomous) from MVP Colony to Maddilapalem on Monday to promote environmental awareness.

The students carried placards highlighting the measures to be initiated to check environmental pollution and protection of ozone layer. They formed a human chain at Maddilapalem and raised slogans.

Earlier addressing the participants, noted environmentalist V.N.R. Krishna Prasad called for a united struggle to overcome the problem of pollution.

He said that many gadgets used by man for his comfort were disturbing the ecological balance.

He hoped that scientific breakthroughs would be achieved to arrest further damage of the ozone layer.

He warned of the consequences of environmental pollution like rise in sea levels, melting of snow mountains and green house gases.

Joint secretary of Gayatri Vidya Parishad P. Raja Ganapathi, who flagged off the rally, said that it was the responsibility of every individual in society to prevent depletion of the ozone layer.
