SIT, American College enter semifinals

Madurai: Sethu Institute of Technology and American College qualified for the semifinals with three and two wins respectively in the four-team Pool ‘B’ league of the Madurai district colleges’ volleyball tournament for the Agri Trophy, organised by MDVA, here on Monday.

Yadava College also made it to the last four stage with an all-win record from Pool ‘A’.

The results:

Pool ‘A’: Yadava bt Sourashtra 25-19, 25-20; Agricultural College bt Madura College 25-21, 23-25, 25-19; Yadava bt Agricultural 25-9, 25-18; Sourashtra bt Madura 25-16, 25-14; Yadava bt Madura 25-11, 25-10.

Pool ‘B’: SIT bt Arulanandar 25-16, 25-15; American College bt SVN 25-19, 25-18; SIT bt SVN 25-17, 25-14; American bt Arulanandar 25-18, 25-18; SIT bt American 25-18, 25-17.

VOC claims title

VOC College (Tuticorin) won the title in the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate football tournament with a 2-0 win over Scott Christian College (Nagercoil) in the final at St. Jude’s College ground, Thuthur, recently.

Jeyakumar (eighth minute) and Lenin (15th) scored for the winner.

Sachin CC registers win

Sachin Cricket Club scored a 35-run victory over Mansur Youngsters Cricket Club in the Canara Bank Dindigul District Cricket Association first division league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores: First division: Sachin CC 294 for seven in 48 overs (V. Gopal 53, T. Venkatesan 51, G. Kamalakannan 73, G. Suresh Daniel 49) bt Mansur Youngsters CC 259 for nine in 48 overs (S. Rajesh 46, S. Sakkaraisamy 65 not out, T. Prabu Vishwavath 41).

AP CC (Pillayarnatham) 134 in 30.1 overs (R. Rajasekar 57, M. Thanga Paramasivam four for 16) bt Jahir CC 94 in 24.2 overs (M. Thanga Paramasivam 50).

Second division: Samiyar Thottam CC 137 for nine in 25 overs (Balan 40) lost to All Rounders CC 139 for eight in 24.1 overs (N. Pranesh 56 not out, A. Stephen four for 42).

Deadly spell by Raja

Raja’s six for 19 helped Apex Cricket Club chalk out a 51-run victory over Ram Friends Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-Tirunelveli District Cricket Association second division league at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores: Apex CC 150 for eight in 20 overs (Murugan 40) bt Ram Friendship CC 99 in 17.4 overs (Antonyraj 40, Raja six for 19). King Dharma CC 156 for five in 20 overs (Nesaruban 42, Bhaskar 51 not out) bt Thiagarajanagar CC 88 in 17.3 overs (S. Jesidharan four for 16).

Big win for Sethu FC

Sethu Football Club thrashed Nehru Football Club 6-0 in the Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy at Madurai on Sunday.

The results: Sethu FC 6 (Murugappan 3, Prabakaran, Sundar, Sankar) bt Nehru FC 0; Don Bosco FC 4 (Nagaraj 2, Alwin 2) bt Usilai FC 1 (Packiaraj); Vikram FC 2 (Mohan, Yogdev) bt TVS Soccer Club 1 (Suresh); Acme FC 1 (Peter) drew with Friends FC, Thirumangalam 1 (Kumar).
