The Fire Services Department got a call at midnight and rushed eight tenders CHENNAI: A young woman died and about 30 persons were injured when bursting of firecrackers caused an accident at a temple festival in Ennore late on Sunday night. Police said a large number of people had assembled to participate in the temple festival at Thalankuppam in Ennore as part of which the crackers were burst. However, some of the crackers misfired and fell in the crowd. In the ensuing melee, a woman identified as Eswari (30) of Triplicane suffered serious burns and died on the spot. She had gone to a relative’s house in Ennore, the police said. The injured were admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and two local private nursing homes for treatment. The Fire and Rescue Services Department received a call about the accident at around midnight, following which eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. A case has been registered.
