2 killed in water tank collapse in A.P.

ONGOLE: Two persons, a woman and a girl, were killed when a water tank, constructed in haste by a voluntary organisation in Pathapadu village near here, collapsed on Wednesday.

As there is no water source in the small sleepy village with a population of about 600, the inhabitants had to carry water from an open well one km away for all their needs. A voluntary organisation, Guard, which gets funds from a German organisation, noticed their plight and came forward to provide drinking water in the village itself at a cost of Rs. 60,000.

The village panchayat allotted one cent of land to the NGO for constructing a water tank at ground level.
