Job fair for distance education students

TIRUCHI: Bharathidasan University Centre for Distance Education has joined hands with Techruit, India’s largest fresher recruitment company to conduct a job fair on September 22 and 23 for thousands of distance education students.

The recruitment is for software, Information Technology Enabled Services / Business Process Outsourcing, Finance and Retail sectors.

The eight recruiting companies include Sutherland Technologies, Allsec, Temenos, NJ Fundz, ICICI Bank, India Infoline, and Heritage Foods.

They have put on offer as many as 8,000 jobs with salaries ranging between Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 15,000.

The university would be setting a precedent by holding a job fair for students of correspondence courses, Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko told reporters on Thursday.

The recruitment exercise would be open for graduates and postgraduates and those in the pre-final/final year of under-graduation and final-year post-graduation.

At seven centres

It would be held simultaneously at the university’s seven personal contact programme centres: Periyar EVR College, Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Puthur, and Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Teppakulam, in Tiruchi district; at Raja Serfoji College in Thanjavur district; H.H. Raja’s College in Pudukkottai district; and Government Arts College in Karur district.

The recruitment process would consist of a written aptitude test followed by subsequent procedures by respective companies, said Baskaran, Director, Centre for Distance Education.

For the benefit of students, Techruit and the university have also launched a free practice pre-screening aptitude tests, which colleges could avail themselves of by contacting Dr. Baskaran (94430 72221) or G. Venugopal, Chief Executive Officer, Techruit (98842 70248).

The Vice-Chancellor would hand over job offer letters to successful candidates on the evening of September 23 at the Khajamalai Campus.
