MADURAI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sought the views of educationists, academics and Vice-Chancellors on norms to be followed while appointing Vice-Chancellors. A conference of vice-chancellors from southern states held in Hyderabad on September 19 discussed the issue. It was decided that a panel would submit recommendations to the apex body of higher education on qualifications/norms required to become Vice-Chancellor. Madurai Kamaraj University Vice-Chancellor P. Maruthamuthu, who attended the conference, told The Hindu on Thursday that heads of varsities were unanimous that certain criteria should be followed in selection of vice-chancellors. UGC Chairman S. Thorat and an eminent educationist A. Gnanam were among those who addressed the conference. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
