Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest of six suspended police officers, including four of the rank of Deputy Inspector Generals, against whom FIRs have been lodged in connection with the alleged bungling in the recruitment of police constables in Uttar Pradesh. A Division Bench comprising Justice S. R. Alam and Justice V. D. Chaturvedi stayed the arrest of DIGs - Akhilesh Mehrotra, B B Bakshi, R N Yadav and Shailendra Pratap Singh - besides additional Superintendents of Police Arun Kumar Gupta and Surendra Bahadur. The Court fixed October 11 as the next date of hearing and asked the State Government to file its counter affidavit and also to complete the investigation “preferably within three weeks”. It directed the six petitioners to cooperate with the investigation process. The petitioners had moved the Court seeking a stay on their arrest and quashing of FIRs lodged against them in various police stations on September 12, a day after 10 IPS officers were suspended and recruitment of over 6,500 constables annulled by the Mayawati Government.
