Nikshep emerges champion

Bangalore: B.R. Nikshep emerged champion in the Kensri School futures tennis tournament.

In the final, Nikshep defeated Amogh 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Big win for KSP

Umesh Mutegar’s brace helped Karnataka State Police (KSP) defeat HAL 5-1 in the Synergy Sports super division hockey league match at the KSHA Stadium here on Sunday.

HAL went ahead when K.P. Roy converted a penalty corner in the ninth minute.

KSP drew level in the 12th minute with Mutegar sounding the boards. Soon Madappa scored and with Mutegar scoring in the 46th minute, KSP led 3-1.

In the later half, K.S. Paramesh and Laxman Rao also scored to help KSP finish at 5-1.

ANZ triumphs

Host ANZ beat Kingfisher Airlines 25-19, 25-21 in the final to win the ANZ Chairman’s Cup throwball tournament that concluded here on Sunday. ANZ donated its cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000 to the Parikrama Foundation, while Kingfisher Airlines donated the runner-up prize of Rs. 1 lakh to the Divya Foundation. Former athlete Ashwini Nachappa presided over the closing ceremony.

Indian taekwondo team

Gaurava Jain, Pankaj Dheer and Shantibala Devi will represent India in the World taekwondo qualification tournament at Manchester from September 28 to 30. The tournament is a qualification event for the next year’s Beijing Olympics.
