SBI takes core banking to remote places

CUTTACK: All the 503 branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Orissa would get the facility of ‘Core Banking’ by this year-end, said the bank’s general manager P Nandakumaran here recently. The Bhubaneswar circle of the SBI has provided this facility in at least 250 branches in the State.

“Core banking facility helps the customers to operate their accounts from anywhere in the country. The customers can even transfer funds from their accounts to any other bank in the country”, Nandakumaran said while inaugurating the core banking facility in the remote Ersama block in Jagatsinghpur district. Since SBI is the largest commercial bank of the country and is committed to work towards the economic development of Orissa, we have identified all the remotest branches in the state to provide advanced banking facilities in them, said Aditya Mishra, the regional manager of SBI, Cuttack circle. Currently all the branches of SBI situated in the urban areas in the State have core banking facility while 95 percent of branches in semi-urban pockets and 41 percent of rural branches have got the advanced banking facility, Mishra added. He said an individual customer could deposit up to Rs 50,000 cash at any core banking solution (CBS) branches in the country without any charge.

“Customers can make inquiry of their account from anywhere in the country and can request for issuance of drafts and other bank instruments. They can also avail facilities for payment of services and can purchase railway tickets from their account. The core-banking facility is available 24X7 and all 365 days of the year”, Mishra informed.
